I last ran for office 35 years ago. Fourth grade. Student council vice president. (If memory serves, only 5th graders were deemed ready for the rigors of the presidency.) I don’t recall the candidate platforms, but I suspect they mostly involved lunchroom pizza days. The funny thing about “grown up politics” (increasingly hard to find) is that silly pizza promises never really go away; politicians just dress them up in flashier agendas and cherry-picked talking points. But good governance is hard, oftentimes unpredictable work. And representation that isn’t future-focused and thoughtful about real-world consequences can lead to outcomes our communities can’t afford. As a husband, father, attorney, and community leader, I have no intention of wasting time in Pierre scoring political points on matters that don’t truly make a difference for the future of our city and state. The promise I offer the people of District 13 is simple: consistent good judgment and steady guiding principles. Families. Education. Public Safety. Economic Growth. Accountable Government. When the service is bad, you shrug it off because it’s become the expectation. When it’s good, it’s surprisingly good. South Dakotans shouldn’t settle for spotty representation, and we shouldn’t be surprised by good governance. Our elected leaders have a responsibility to consistently preserve the conditions for strong families, safe communities, and economic opportunity. That’s how I intend to serve you.
