Why I’m Running
Friends, Neighbors, & Fellow South Dakotans:
After a great deal of thought and encouragement, I am running as a Republican candidate for the South Dakota House of Representatives in District 13.
“We need more good people to run” is a sentiment in our politics with enduring resonance. This has been reinforced in nearly every conversation had with folks in and around our district. We must do better, and I intend to do better.
A lifelong South Dakotan, I enter this race unapologetically for my children’s future, but also out of love for our community, our state, and the people who call it home. Job creation, strong education, public safety, responsible tax policy, and government accountability ought to motivate every public servant. These are not chips to be played in unserious political games.
Voters delegate to legislators the important responsibility of studying issues, illuminating problems, debating ideas, and reliably making well-reasoned decisions on behalf of the people. Voting in an election may be motivated by specific issues, but it is fundamentally about placing trust in someone else’s judgment, integrity, and values.
A husband, father of three young children, and attorney-executive, my candidacy is about bringing a fresh perspective and investing in, not tearing down, what makes South Dakota great – care for our neighbors, hard work, education and innovation, and an enterprising spirit.
Absentee voting begins April 17th, with the primary election held June 2nd. Your support in any form will help build momentum and send a strong signal our campaign has the backing of people who care deeply about the future of Sioux Falls and our state.
Thank you for your encouragement, consideration, and support. I am eager to discuss with you personally what we can do together to ensure a bright future for South Dakota.
With gratitude,
-Nick
